Bacopa Monnieri in Neuro Recall: Benefits, Dosage and Safety
Quick answerBacopa monnieri is fourth in the Neuro Recall blend, standardized to at least 20% bacosides, so a serving holds no more than about 159 mg. A review of nine trials used mostly about 300 mg a day for 12 weeks or more. It found small gains in attention speed and no clear memory benefit. That makes this serving about half the studied dose at most.

- 4 of 10 in the 635 mg blend
- Amount per 2-capsule serving
- Up to 158.8 mg
- Doses used in studies
- About 300 mg a day for 12+ weeks (Kongkeaw et al., 2014)
- Share of the studied dose
- About half at most
- Also called
- Whole plant, not less than 20% bacosides
Bacopa sits fourth in the Neuro Recall blend, behind cinnamon, ginkgo and bilberry. Its ceiling is set by that position, not by a printed figure.
What is bacopa monnieri?
Bacopa monnieri is a small creeping plant that grows in wet ground. It is also called water hyssop or brahmi. It has a long history in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India.
The Neuro Recall label lists a whole-plant extract with at least 20% bacosides. Bacosides are the compounds extracts are measured by. That standard is a plus, since many blends give none.
What are the benefits of bacopa monnieri?
The research points to small gains in attention speed. A 2014 review pooled nine randomized trials with 518 people. Most gave about 300 mg a day of standardized extract for 12 weeks or longer (Kongkeaw et al., 2014).
People taking bacopa did a little faster on attention tests than people on placebo. The review did not find a clear memory benefit. The authors said larger, longer trials are needed.

What is the usual bacopa dosage?
No standard dose has been set for bacopa. The trials in the review used mostly about 300 mg a day of a standardized extract. Results were measured after at least 12 weeks.
That means two details matter when you compare products: the daily amount and the bacoside standard. A short trial run of a few days tells you little.
| Point | Amount | Extract | Time | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Studied dose | About 300 mg a day | Standardized extract | 12 weeks or more | (Kongkeaw et al., 2014) |
| Neuro Recall ceiling | About 159 mg per serving | At least 20% bacosides | No trial of the product | (21 CFR 101.36) |
| Share of studied dose | About half at most | Could be less | Real amount not printed | (21 CFR 101.36) |
Honest note: Neuro Recall holds about half the studied dose at most
Fourth place in a 635 mg blend caps bacopa at about 159 mg. That is roughly half of 300 mg, and the real figure may be lower. So the trial results do not transfer to Neuro Recall.
The bars below set this gap beside the other main items. Our dose table covers all ten.
Bacopa monnieriAbout half at most
Ginkgo bilobaDose not the problem
The big ginkgo trial used 240 mg a day for about 6 years and still found no drop in dementia. (Snitz et al., JAMA 2009)
Vitamin B12100x the RDA
240 mcg is 100 times the 2.4 mcg adults need. It helps if you are low; extra is not shown to boost memory. (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12)
Whole blend635 mg for 10 items
Ten herbs and nutrients share 635 mg, so most can only be present in small amounts. (21 CFR 101.36)
What are the side effects of bacopa?
Side effect data in the sources we cite are limited. The 2014 review focused on attention and memory results (Kongkeaw et al., 2014). So we cannot give you a reliable list for bacopa alone.
What we can say is how to stay safe with any new capsule. Watch how you feel in the first weeks. The magnesium oxide in the Neuro Recall base can loosen stools, and several blend items can lower blood sugar.
Can bacopa interact with medicines?
Our cited sources do not list bacopa interactions. That is not the same as proof that there are none. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start, especially if you take several prescriptions.
The other items in the capsule matter too. Chromium (NIH ODS, Chromium), berberine (MSKCC, Berberine) and alpha lipoic acid (MSKCC, Alpha-lipoic acid) can lower blood sugar. Ginkgo may raise bleeding risk with blood thinners (NCCIH, Ginkgo). L-theanine may add to sedatives (MSKCC, L-theanine).
Who should avoid bacopa?
Ask first, or skip it
- Anyone pregnant or nursing: the label says do not use
- Children: keep out of reach, the label is for adults
- People on diabetes medicine, because of other items in the blend
- People on blood thinners or with surgery coming up, because of ginkgo
- Anyone with ongoing health conditions, until a doctor agrees

How to compare bacopa in any memory supplement
A few label checks tell you more than the front of the bottle. Use them on this product or any other.
- 01
Find the amount
Look for a printed milligram figure. In a blend, use label order to work out the most it can be.
- 02
Check the standard
A bacoside percentage shows the extract was measured. No percentage means you cannot tell its strength.
- 03
Compare with 300 mg
That is the daily amount most trials used. Far less is not the dose that was tested.
- 04
Plan for 12 weeks
Trials ran at least that long. A few days says nothing either way.
- 05
Read the other items
Blends add herbs with their own cautions. Check each one, not just bacopa.
Our buyer checklist for memory supplements walks through the same steps for every ingredient.
Memory worries deserve a checkup first
Do not wait on a supplement
Bacopa is not a treatment for memory loss. If forgetting starts to disrupt daily life, book a doctor visit (Alzheimer's Association, 10 warning signs). If confusion, trouble speaking or one-sided weakness comes on suddenly, call 911 (CDC, Stroke signs). A low B12 level is one treatable cause of memory problems that a simple blood test can find.
Bacopa monnieri FAQ: questions people ask
What are the benefits of bacopa monnieri?
In a review of nine trials, bacopa gave small gains in attention speed. A clear memory benefit was not found, and the authors called for larger trials.
What is the right bacopa dosage?
No dose has been agreed on. Most trials in the 2014 review used about 300 mg a day of a standardized extract, taken for 12 weeks or longer.
How much bacopa is in Neuro Recall?
No more than about 159 mg per 2-capsule serving. Bacopa is fourth of ten in a 635 mg blend, and the real amount is not printed.
How long does bacopa take to work?
Trials measured results after 12 weeks or more, not days. No trial has tested Neuro Recall itself, so there is no timeline for this product.
What are the side effects of bacopa?
The sources we cite give limited side effect data for bacopa. If you notice stomach upset or anything new after you start, stop and ask your doctor.
Can I take bacopa with other medicines?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first. Our sources do not list bacopa interactions, but other items in the same capsules affect blood sugar and bleeding.
What does 20% bacosides mean?
Bacosides are the compounds bacopa extracts are standardized to. The label says the extract holds at least 20% of them by weight.
Is bacopa the same as brahmi?
Bacopa monnieri is often sold under the name brahmi, and it is also called water hyssop. Check the plant name on any label, because other plants are sometimes called brahmi too.
Who should not take bacopa?
Anyone pregnant or nursing should not use Neuro Recall, as the label says. People with health conditions or on prescription medicine should ask a doctor first.
