How Neuro Recall Works: What Each Part of the Formula Is Studied For

Written by the Neuro Recall editorial team · Last updated · 8 min read · Medical review below

Quick answerNeuro Recall has no proven way of working on memory, and no trial of the product exists. It pairs a vitamin and mineral base (B12, folate, magnesium, chromium) with a 635 mg blend led by cinnamon, ginkgo and bacopa. B12 matters for memory if you are low. Ginkgo did not prevent decline in a large trial, and bacopa is at most about half the studied dose.

Overview

How does Neuro Recall work, in short?

Neuro Recall is built in layers. A base of four vitamins and minerals comes with exact amounts. A 635 mg blend of ten herbs and nutrients sits on top, with only the order printed.

Each layer has its own research. None of it is research on this product. Tap a step below, or let it play, to see what each layer is studied for.

Vitamins

The vitamin and mineral base: what does it do?

This is the part with clear numbers. Each serving lists folate, vitamin B12, magnesium and chromium in exact amounts. These nutrients have known roles in the body, and NIH fact sheets explain them.

The key point is simple. A nutrient helps most when you are short of it. When your level is already normal, more of it rarely does more.

Read from the Neuro Recall Supplement Facts panel. Daily Values are for adults.
NutrientPer serving% Daily ValueWhat the NIH fact sheet says
Vitamin B12240 mcg10,000%Low B12 can cause memory problems; extra is not shown to help if you get enough (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12)
Folate600 mcg DFE150%Below the 1,000 mcg folic acid upper limit; high doses can hide low B12 (NIH ODS, Folate)
Magnesium250 mg60%Under the 350 mg supplement upper limit; oxide form can loosen stools (NIH ODS, Magnesium)
Chromium120 mcg343%May lower blood sugar with diabetes medicine (NIH ODS, Chromium)
B12

Vitamin B12 and memory: who might benefit?

People who are low in B12. A deficiency can cause confusion and memory problems (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12). Treating it can matter a great deal.

Some people are more likely to run low, such as older adults and people who eat no animal foods. Your doctor can tell you if a test makes sense for you.

Each serving gives 240 mcg, 100 times the 2.4 mcg adults need each day. That is a lot for someone with normal levels, and the extra has not been shown to sharpen memory. A simple blood test tells you which group you are in.

Ask for a B12 test

High doses of folic acid can hide low B12 (NIH ODS, Folate). If you have memory symptoms, ask your doctor for a B12 test rather than guessing.

Ginkgo

Ginkgo biloba: what did the big trial find?

It found no protection. In the GEM study, 3,069 adults aged 72 to 96 took 120 mg of ginkgo twice a day or a placebo for a median of 6.1 years (Snitz et al., JAMA 2009). Rates of cognitive decline did not differ between the groups. Dementia rates did not differ either (NCCIH, Ginkgo).

Neuro Recall could hold up to 317.5 mg of ginkgo by label order, so the dose is not the issue. The herb simply did not do what people hoped in that trial. Ginkgo may also raise bleeding risk with blood thinners (NCCIH, Ginkgo). Read the full story on the ginkgo biloba page.

Bacopa

Bacopa monnieri: what is it studied for?

Mainly attention and thinking speed. A review pooled nine trials with 518 people, most taking about 300 mg a day of standardized extract for 12 weeks or more (Kongkeaw et al., 2014). The extract gave small gains in attention speed. It did not show a clear memory benefit, and the authors asked for larger trials.

In Neuro Recall, bacopa is 4th in the blend, so a serving holds at most about 159 mg. That is roughly half the studied dose, at best. The bacopa monnieri page covers side effects and the details of that review.

The blend

What about the rest of the blend?

Eight more items share the 635 mg with ginkgo and bacopa. The bar below shows the most each one could weigh. Most are studied for other things, such as blood sugar or eye health, rather than memory.

635 mgtotal blend in each capsule
  1. Cinnamon Bark Extract At least 63.5 mg
  2. Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract Up to 317.5 mg
  3. Bilberry Fruit Extract Up to 211.7 mg
  4. Bacopa Monnieri Extract Up to 158.8 mg
  5. Green Tea Leaf Extract Up to 127 mg
  6. Berberine HCl Up to 105.8 mg
  7. L-Theanine Up to 90.7 mg
  8. Alpha Lipoic Acid Up to 79.4 mg
  9. GPC Choline (Alpha-GPC) Up to 70.6 mg
  10. Lutein & Zeaxanthin Up to 63.5 mg
Amounts come from label order (21 CFR 101.36): ten items share 635 mg, so the item in position n can weigh at most 635 ÷ n mg, and the first is at least 63.5 mg. The real split is not printed.
Honest note

Does Neuro Recall work? Honest note on what is unproven

No one can say that it does. No trial of Neuro Recall has been published. Ginkgo failed in the largest trial, bacopa is at most about half the tested dose, and ten items share 635 mg, so most are small.

The parts with a clear job are the vitamins, and they help mainly if you are low. Ads that promise sharper recall or reversed memory loss go beyond the evidence (FTC, Health Products Compliance Guidance). The FDA does not approve supplements before they are sold (FDA, Q&A on Dietary Supplements).

Bacopa monnieriAbout half at most

Neuro Recall, the most it can hold: about 159 mg a serving
Research: about 300 mg a day (Kongkeaw et al., 2014)

Ginkgo bilobaDose not the problem

The big ginkgo trial used 240 mg a day for about 6 years and still found no drop in dementia. (Snitz et al., JAMA 2009)

Vitamin B12100x the RDA

240 mcg is 100 times the 2.4 mcg adults need. It helps if you are low; extra is not shown to boost memory. (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12)

Ten herbs and nutrients share 635 mg, so most can only be present in small amounts. (21 CFR 101.36)

Habits

What has stronger evidence for brain health?

Everyday habits. They are not exciting, but they are where the evidence is strongest. NCCIH's overview of memory supplements is a useful read alongside them (NCCIH, Supplements for cognitive function).

Sleep

Regular, enough sleep helps attention and memory the next day.

Move most days

Walking and other activity help the heart and blood vessels that feed the brain.

Blood pressure and sugar

Keeping both in range protects blood vessels, including those in the brain.

Hearing checks

Untreated hearing loss makes conversation hard work. A test is quick.

Stay social

Talking, groups and hobbies keep the mind busy in useful ways.

Test for low B12

A blood test finds a cause of memory trouble that can be treated.

Our memory basics guide goes through each habit in more depth.

See a doctor

When do memory changes need a doctor?

When they disrupt daily life. Getting lost in familiar places, repeating the same questions, trouble with bills or new problems finding words are reasons to book a visit (Alzheimer's Association, 10 warning signs). Many causes, such as low B12, thyroid trouble, sleep problems or medicine side effects, can be treated.

Sudden changes: call 911

Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, numbness or weakness on one side, or a sudden severe headache can mean a stroke. Call 911 right away and note the time (CDC, Stroke signs).

A capsule is not a diagnosis. The results timeline explains what you can and cannot expect over the first months.

FAQ

How Neuro Recall works: questions people ask

How does Neuro Recall work?

It is a daily capsule that combines four vitamins and minerals with ten herbs and nutrients. Each part has its own research, but the product itself has not been tested in a published trial.

Does Neuro Recall work?

There is no published study of Neuro Recall, so nobody can say it works. Its parts range from helpful if you are low in them (B12) to unproven or tested and found wanting (ginkgo).

Does vitamin B12 help memory?

It helps if your memory problems come from low B12. NIH says extra B12 is not shown to help people who already get enough, so a blood test is the useful first step.

Does ginkgo biloba really work for memory?

The largest trial says no for preventing decline. More than 3,000 older adults took 240 mg a day for about 6 years with no drop in dementia or cognitive decline.

How long does it take Neuro Recall to work?

No timeline has been studied for this product. Bacopa trials ran 12 weeks or more, so judging anything sooner than that is guesswork.

Is Neuro Recall a treatment for dementia or Alzheimer's?

No. It is a dietary supplement, not a drug, and it is not meant to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, including dementia.

Why does Neuro Recall contain so much B12?

The label lists 240 mcg, which is 10,000% of the Daily Value and 100 times the adult RDA. Extra B12 has not been shown to help people with normal levels.

What is a proprietary blend?

It is one total weight for several ingredients without the amount of each. In Neuro Recall, ten items share 635 mg and only their order is printed.

Can Neuro Recall replace my memory medicine?

No. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine because of a supplement. Talk to your doctor about any change.
